John Powell’s extensive list of film scores just keeps growing and growing and soon his second Ice Age film will be heard in theaters with the release of  Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on July 1, 2009.  Sound clips are now available on the Colosseum Music Entertainment (manufacturer of Varèse Sarabande albums for Europe, the Middle East and Africa) website.

Excerpt from the site:

“The sub-zero heroes from the worldwide blockbusters Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown are back, on an incredible adventure … for the ages. Scrat is still trying to nab the ever-elusive nut (while, maybe, finding true love); Manny (Ray Romano) and Ellie (Queen Latifah) await the birth of their minimammoth, Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) gets into trouble when he creates his own makeshift family by hijacking some dinosaur eggs; and Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary) wonders if he’s growing too ’soft’ hanging with his pals.”

John Powell is most notably known for composing several animated films, including Bolt, Horton Hears a Who!, Happy Feet, Robots, Kung Fu Panda with Hans Zimmer, and Shrek with Harry-Gregson Williams.  Other works include Hancock, Jumper, X-Men: The Last Stand, and the Jason Bourne film series.  Powell’s next project will be the Green Zone, a film directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) taking place during the U.S. occupancy in Iraq.  He will also score DreamWorks Animation’s next film How to Train Your Dragon, scheduled for a March 26, 2010 release.
